Dog-Friendly Seattle Hotel Review: Level South Lake Union

If you are looking for a dog-friendly Seattle hotel, check out Level in South Lake Union. We have now stayed at Level Seattle twice. We first chose the hotel based on its location and proximity to family we were visiting, but we enjoyed the setup so much that it was a no-brainer to come back again during our recent visit to Seattle. The hotel is new with a beautiful modern design, and fantastic amenities. We really like the location in South Lake Union, it is super walkable to many restaurants and coffee shops that we enjoy. During our most recent visit we had such nice weather that we even walked from the hotel to Pike Place Market and explored the whole area.

Below is our full review based on our 5 key dog-friendly criteria. If you are looking for a great dog-friendly Seattle hotel, definitely add Level to your list!

1. Pet-friendly design: A

What really sets this hotel apart from other dog-friendly Seattle hotels is that all of the rooms are set up as suites/apartment style, with fully stocked kitchens and living spaces. We really enjoy this setup, and it feels much less cramped than staying in a standard hotel, especially when sharing the space with two dogs! We stayed in the one bedroom suite, and it was so nice to have a living room and space in the kitchen to store dog food, etc. There is also a nice big courtyard area right outside the hotel that is easy for potty breaks, as well as the additional dog-friendly amenities outlined below.

2. Amenities: A

While items like bowls and dog beds are not provided (at least at the time of our stay), the hotel design includes several dog-friendly amenities. There is a small dog run on the second floor near the pool, as well as two on site pet spas.

Level has amazing amenities for humans as well. It has the largest hotel gym I have ever seen (9,000 sq. ft.), including a cycling room with Peloton bikes. There is even an indoor basketball court and climbing wall. There is also a really nice outdoor pool and hot tub area, as well as BBQ stations, fire pits and nice outdoor seating areas.

3. Proximity to activities: A+

The hotel is in a great central location, located right in the heart of downtown Seattle in South Lake Union. It is in walking distance to so many places to explore, including restaurants, coffee shops and Pike Place Market. It is also a short drive to many great parks and activities. 4. Rules & Regulations: A+

Other than ensuring dogs are on leash while on the property and not allowing dogs in the pool area, there really weren’t any strict rules at Level. Everyone there was very friendly toward our dogs and the whole surrounding area is very dog friendly. The apartment-style set up also allowed us to feel comfortable leaving the dogs there when needed, and because it is a newer building, it seemed nicely sound-proofed.

5. Pet Fees: C

I will forever complain about hotel pet fees in hopes that maybe one day they will magically disappear. Level charges $50 per night, per pet, for up to 3 nights. Meaning if your stay is 3 nights, the total is $150 per pet. If your stay is more than 3 nights, the total will not exceed $150 per pet. For just one dog this isn’t terrible, especially if you were staying for a full week, but with two dogs this can definitely add up quickly. In full transparency, I went back to my final invoice while writing this post, and it looks like they actually did not charge us the pet fee. So it seems we got lucky this time! For us it is likely still worth it for the additional space you get staying at Level compared to a standard hotel room, but if I had one complaint, this would be it.
